Gah...seriously.  I really thought we got all of this crap out of our system last year, right?  Now it's back to square one it seems.  Thank god for @IceEdgeDJ who is keeping a fine sense of humor on things...Apparently, as Travis noted, Shoalts isn't taking the olive branch...oh well.

So basically, every Coyotes link that is in my Google Alert is related to this ownership mess.  Lovely.  You know what I want to talk about, free agents, recapping last year, how can we advance to the 2nd round, etc.  But instead, we get to focus on this...I'm soooooo thrilled.  I think Ghost covered my feelings pretty well the other day, so I will spare you all my rant.  I encourage everyone to attend the Glendale City Council meeting on Tuesday and let the charming folks on the council how you feel about their handling of the situation.  I'll have links to these stories below the jump with a very little bit of commentary relating to a quote I saw in one of the articles that just pisses me off to no end.

In other hockey related weekend news, the Flyers and Canucks staved off elimination, the Red Wings did not...more playoff hockey is always good, so I'm sure many of you share my happiness that the Flyers and Canucks are forcing more games...I'm sure the collective animosity towards the Red Wings means that you are only upset it took them 5 games to be eliminated.

LAST NIGHT'S NHL SCORES:  Canucks 4 - Blackhawks 1 (Chicago leads series 3-2)

Last night, also, that happened...ouch....I remember when this happened to Patrick Thoreson two years ago...not good, not good at all...

After the jump, ownership mess, ownership mess and more ownership mess, nepotism and Zbynek Michalek, and Yotesgurl's first reflections on last season...

Looking at the Senatorspossibly signing Zbynek Michalek.  He's going to get a lot of attention on the open market, which is why the ownership mess needs to get straightened out already...I'm not sure my Czech loving wife can take it...

Time is money as Glendale decides Coyotes' fate: Hotstove

Ok, here's the start of the never-ending ownership linkage...and there's a quote from this article that makes me just want to put a whole in the wall:

HNIC analyst Glenn Healy threw cold water on the notion that the Coyotes would end up anywhere but Winnipeg. Gate receipts were down 30 per cent last year in Phoenix, he added. "You can't exist in the NHL with that," Healy said. "In my mind it's clear — it has to be Winnipeg."

Ok, Glenn Healy was a solid goalie...played back-up for the Rangers team that won the cup in 1994.  Always generally thought he was a good guy.  But this is the asinine lazy-ass bull-crap that folks toss out when they are lazy-ass terrible journalists.  As we've dissected, the Coyotes overall gate receipts for last year were down significantly...perhaps even as much as 30%.  But the vast majority of this "down" was caused by the summer of hell and the abysmal attendance figures seen the first few months of the season following an offseason where very few season tickets could be sold.  In 2008-2009, the Coyotes had a very steady average attendance of just under 15,000 fans, for a non-playoff team...

The Coyotes should be riding into next season on a wave of good faith after the incredible year they've had this year, and should be able to coast into an opening month of sold out stadiums that some good play will carry forward through the entire year.  Instead, the longer this mess continues without resolution, the more this goodwill gets squandered, and the more likely that once again the Coyotes will need to win back the fans that sold out the final 8 home games last year...good job people calling the shots all around.  Way to screw the pooch even further.

Ok, that's it for my mini-rant.  The rest of the way, all I've got are more takes on the ownership...read at your own risk...

The more I mull on this ownership mess

The more it knots my mullet (s/t to puck daddy for that).

COG f**ked this. Royally. Totally. F**KED IT.

I just want my team to stay in Arizona. I just want 2011 to be a year where the coyotes are not the ‘cinderella story’ of coming out of bankrupcy to make the playoffs. I just want 2011 to be the year that the Coyotes can be EXPECTED to make the playoffs. I just want the ‘analyists’ to put them SOMEWHERE in the rankings this year.

I just want the Coyotes to be another Team in the NHL. Not the NHL’s team.

I’m tired guys. I really am. This ownership situation is gettimg more and more like a cluster f**k everyday.

Is it too much to hope it’ll be over soon….

please?

An interesting article

http://www.bettingonhockey.net/coyote-ugly-jets-should-land-in-winnipeg-but-not-with-dogs-aboard/

Some quotes:
bq. In a perfect NHL, there would be teams in Winnipeg, along with Quebec and Hamilton, and the Coyotes would remain in Phoenix.

As much as I am not a fan of the NHL going into non-traditional hockey markets, the fact is, if teams win on the ice, they will succeed at the gate.

However I don’t like the closing comments

Kudos Winnipeg, for getting back your beloved Jets. I guess fans in Phoenix now will just have to wait for the Panthers to become available.

WTF?!

This is the worst feeling ever. I feel totally played. F Glendale, F Ellman, F Moyes for being a friggin moron, F Reinsdorf, and did I say F Glendale? Can’t f’n believe we’re losing our team for real. Never thought this would really happen… Guess I learned to never underestimate the stupidity of elected officials. All IEH wanted was an exclusivity – pretty small request given how they got screwed over before, but guess it was too much. Stay classy Glendale, I can guarantee that Winnipeg is more likely to see my money before u will again.

Pffft

You’ll live another day. The NHL is just telling Glendale to quit dicking around with the lease and work things out with an owner or they will either A-Force Glendale to cover costs or B-Move. While horribly written stories make it unclear, the impression is that the NHL will only make the city cover costs if the NHL is still the owner and not ice edge/Chicago guy(whatever his name was). The city won’t cover the costs period so that option is just to apply pressure. The reason chicagoguy backed out is because the city of glendale was jerking him around on a lease deal. If the team moves or has to cover costs they either wont have a tenant or lose more money anyway so the NHL is just forcing them to quit screwing around with the arena. You will still have a team next year.

Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.

Keep in mind, when lawyers (and/or politicians) are involved, most the stuff the media gets is just posturing and leverage, or blatent lies. Especially Toronto Globe and Mail, who probably gets all their info from Eklund, or any other random internet crackpot that gives them a quote that Canadians want to hear.

This is what happens when your owners are criminals. As a Sabres fan, i feel your pain (it wasn’t even 10 years ago that we were “100% moving to Winnepeg [or Quebec, or wherever else was cool at the time]”.) I’m sure TSN posted 100,000 articles about how the Sabres were moving to winnepeg, couldn’t support a franchise, didn’t deserve a franchise… etc… Then we activated “Really rich guy with lots of political friends” plan and were saved.

Not even the Toronto Maple Leafs could kill my optimism

look as much as i like the Coyotes and i do you said they had a very steady average attendance of just under 15,000 fans, for a non-playoff team…if Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton Or Vancouver don’t have a playoff team they will still fill the stadium up to the rim i personally want a tea to come back to Canada there isn’t even snow in Arizona i know you guys love your team like i love the Habs but they had a good run now its time to come back to a place where hockey matters like Winnipeg or Quebec city i do believe there are fans of of the desert dogs honestly in Arizona hockey like what 4th biggest team collage football is more important then hockey in Arizona so f—— you all thinking this is a tragedy the real tragedy happened in 95

To beat a dead horse...

I’m not saying that a steady average attendance of under 15,000 is acceptable, but for a team that was enduring it’s 8th consecutive playoff-less season, it certainly wasn’t anything to sneeze at. And yes, the 6 Canadian markets will always draw well…what exactly does this have to do with Phoenix?

Nobody here doesn’t want Canada to get more teams…and we don’t condone what happened in 1995…but to say “fuck you” to the Coyotes fans is just ridiculous. I’m so fucking sick of this mentality that we don’t deserve professional hockey…why the fuck not? Give me one good reason why I should have to put up with not having professional hockey in the city I live in. I love it, I support it, I try and get friends to go to games, and I want my kids to play in youth organizations (when I have kids). Yeah, we don’t get snow in Phoenix…big frickin’ deal. I didn’t realize it was a pre-requisite. Expand the league, get teams in all Canadian cities, but don’t tell us that we don’t deserve hockey…

you got me all wrong

not saying that there aren’t coteries fans. and im sure you guys deserve a team its about money and i think that Phonix doesn’t have the financial backing like Winnipeg in 95 both are disappointing there are other locations in the us and not trying to be rude but your team with other like Florida, Dallas,Anaheim, Atlanta and Columbus its not your guys fault. I’m just fed up with all this bullshit but they should of been sold to Jim Balsillie should have had your guys team last year

I don’t see how we got you all wrong when you are saying:

It’s a bit hard to take you too seriously beyond that. To be honest, with your lack of punctuation and grammar it’s really hard to tell anything you are saying. So take your time, breathe deeply and feel free to write it out clearly. I’m happy to debate certain concepts about how much is too much for Glendale to commit and what’s the appropriate level of a CFD, and what-not. But for you to say you are tired of the bs and that Balsillie should’ve bought the team…that type of talk gets you banned around here. So if that’s where you want to go with it, fine…but I’ll let you know now that your next post will be your last here…
