Coyote Tracks - Monday April 5 Edition
Opening Day...it's Opening Day. Go Phillies!!!!
Wait, what...this is Five for Howling and you want to talk hockey....but it's opening day! Oh, alright, fine....but go check out your favorite team's baseball blog here at SB Nation (such as The Good Phight)...good times, I promise. (Travis' Note: OR you know AZ Snake Pit)
First, the Coyotes tailgate on Saturday was a blast. Thanks to everyone who showed up, ate food, drank a little and played street hockey. It's probably getting a bit too hot to keep playing street hockey mid-day in Phoenix, but you never know. Maybe we can get in one more pre-game game if the Coyotes get a Saturday home playoff game (crossing fingers)...
Otherwise, not too much going on with the Coyotes after Saturday night's sell out crowd shootout win. The biggest news from yesterday was Dan Carcillo and the Flyers beating the Red Wings to help Nashville hold on to the 4th seed for the time being. Now, to be clear, I'm not scared of the Red Wings - they are a great team, have playoff experience, yadda yadda yadda...I think the Coyotes can beat them. I just don't want to have to deal with Red Wings fans during our first white out in 8 years. No offense to the fine folks of Nashville, but they just don't travel to Phoenix as well.
Anyways, since it was a very quiet weekend around the site. Here's some recaps about the game against Edmonton: [AZCentral's Gintonio] [@YotesGurl's take]
LAST NIGHT'S NHL SCORES: DET 3 - PHL 4; CGY1 - MIN 4; SJ 4 - COL 5 (OT); MIN 3 - VAN 4 (OT)
There is Not a Coyotes Conspiracy
Let’s start giving the Coyotes credit for the season they’ve had in the face of adversity.
Ice Edge says Coyotes bid still strong
The Ice Edge Holdings pitch to buy the Phoenix Coyotes is strongly thought to be leaking, but that's not what chief operating officer Daryl Jones told Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday.
CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Columnists - Wiebe: Other NHL options for Winnipeg
Why the Coyotes staying in Phoenix may be the best thing for Winnipeg to get a team again. It's an interesting argument, and I'm sure if expansion comes to the NHL, Winnipeg will be a goal. I'm not sure the folks over at On the Forecheck want to hear their suggestion.
As for your whimsy....not so much whimsy, just a cool story and a very lucky fan...

Coyotes don't play again until Wednesday so we have a few days to keep the news fresh and exciting. Send me links via email, DM on Twitter (@jordanellel) or post them in the comments. Also make sure that you are becoming a fan of Five For Howling on Facebook.

I’m glad us Avalanche fans aren’t the only ones who hate Detroit fans. The coyotes just went up in my book.
I think if you are not a Detroit fan, you pretty much hate them. But I will admit that my hatred of them didn’t become as acute as it is until I had to spend a few games surrounded by them…

Sorry guys
Didn’t end up finding ya’ll for the tailgate – ended up getting there about 2:30 after the skate at the ice den, and had to grab some food.
Was a fun game to be at tho!

Not a problem – glad you got to make it out to a game. Are you still in town for a while or are you heading back out of the country soon?

I’m in the states until april 28th – we’re hoping to make it to a playoff game if we can. Were going to go to the predators but unfortunately with the wedding on friday its just too close to make it sadly.

Understood. Well, definitely let us know if you will be at one of the playoff games and we can (hopefully) meet up then.

From Puck Daddy
Phoenix Coyotes: You wanna hear a crazy-ass stat? The Coyotes have played 12 back-to-backs this year, and they’ve taken 32 of 48 points from them. That’s a lot!
