The Sundogs ended their second straight season missing the playoffs with a loss to the Colorado Eagles. The next to last game on March 19 was a win however with the team giving a performance that is up for the CHL Performance of the Year award. On March 19th, the Sundogs scored six powerplay goals and one shorthanded goal for a 7-6 win over the Eagles. Fans were given a reminder of the championship season and hope for the future.
The future is turning out to be a surprise however. The CHL announced a surprise move yesterday as it broke ties with the group that owned the Sundogs, Prescott Valley Hockey Club, LLC (PVHC – Arizona Sundogs). The CHL has assumed ownership of the team and the lease with the arena the Sundogs play in, Tim's Toyota Center. The only reason given was this statement:
"We are unable to comment as to all the details of the termination at this time," said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. "But it has become clear that PVHC has not been operating at a level consistent within the parameters set forth in their license agreement."
Fans are shocked and worried, no one had any idea this was coming as far as I know. I can only hope that a new ownership will be found soon and that the team will stay in town.
