Game 5 is tonight at Jobing.com Arena.  It's going to be a tense affair; Shane Doan will be a game time decision with an upper body injury, and it's possible that if he can't go, Coach Tippett will dress 7 defensemen.  Whatever the lineup, the Coyotes will need to bring their A intensity and dictate the pace of play while forcing the issue on the Red Wings in their zone and on the transition.  I won't go so far as to call it a must-win game for the Coyotes, but it's as close to must win as they've faced all season...

It's late, so we'll do this speedy.  Travis will have a game preview up later today, and the gameday thread will be run by our good friends from Pension Plan Puppets...hope everyone makes it over.

Crazy night around the league last night - 3 shutouts, a triple overtime affair and the Philadelphia Flyers, the final team into the playoffs, are the first team through to the second round...

LAST NIGHT'S NHL SCORES:  PHL 3 - NJ 1 (Philadelphia wins series 4-1); OTT 4 - PIT 3 (3OT) (Pittsburgh leads series 3-2); CHI 3 - NSH 0 (Series tied at 2); COL 0 - SJ 5 (San Jose leads series 3-2)

After the jump, Sami Lepisto enjoying the playoff run, notes from the Red Wings, the idiots that threw the octopuses on the ice during game 2, and whimsy...

Phoenix Coyotes' Sami Lepisto enjoying playoff experience
Sami Lepisto chatted with The Republic about his earliest playoff memories, the confidence level in having home ice advantage and the progress of his playoff beard.

Red Wings outline Game 5 objectives: minimize penalties, stay physical, play consistent, annoy Bryzgalov, more Z | MLive.com
Pretty much mirroring objectives shared by the Coyotes.  Which team comes out wanting it more is the question.

Phoenix Business Journal: It's Suns vs. Coyotes in the TV ratings game
Author takes a pot shot at the Coyotes ratings compared to the Suns.  I don't see the point; Coyotes ratings are very healthy, but the Suns have 40 years of history behind them...this is note a surprise...

Men on a mission: Wings fans hit the road for Octolaunch - Daily Tribune: Breaking news coverage for southeastern Oakland County, Michigan
Phoenix fans - if you see these guys, or other guys attempting the same thing, alert your nearest usher...no octopus should hit the ice tonight!  It's on you to be responsible for your sections.  I hope whatever judge this idiot sees on Monday decides to throw a max fine his way...

Panaccio: Laperriere Again Shows Toughness
For those of you that saw the Flyers-Devils game, Ian Laperriere took another shot off his face; the 2nd horrific shot block that Lappy has taken this season.  The good news is that he's ok and that he plans to wear a visor in the future.  It's really only a matter of time before these are required for all players, and they should be.

How "Too Many Men On The Ice" Happens | Bourne's Blog
Justin Bourne gives a fabulous breakdown of the Too Many Men on The Ice penalty and why we've possibly been seeing so many of them in these playoffs...

The Hockey News: Screen Shots: Screen Shots: Who I voted for and why
Adam Proteau presents to you his awards ballot and explains his thought process behind why he chose who he did for each trophy.

Joe Thornton: Goat or scapegoat? - ProHockeyTalk - Hockey - NBC Sports
San Jose has retaken control of its series with Colorado, but it's really not thanks to anything that Thornton is providing...the only Big Joe in the San Jose lineup right now is Joe Pavelski!

Double shot of whimsy...

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road : Blades Of Funny
And some parting words for our retiring or possibly retiring NHL vets...

Hope to see everyone at Jobing.com Arena tonight.  If you will not be at the game, follow along in the game thread.  Go Coyotes!!!!

Awoooooooooo!

I’ve noticed a trend…

Game 1: Octo hits ice, coyotes spit on it, dumped behind yotes bench. We win
Game 2: Octo hits ice, cleaned by linesmen, Scum Win
Game 3: Octo hits ice, picked up by Linesmen, dropped by wings dude, we win
Game 4: Octo hits ice, picked up by linesmen, not dropped, we win.

I think you meant that Scum win on Game 4…I haven’t been paying too much attention to the Octo – just hope not to see one today…

That’s the pattern I predicted before Game 3. This just has all the feelings of a back and forth, back and forth series. Hopefully we win tonight and break the pattern on Sunday. I’m ready for both of my teams to be playing in the 2nd round…

Hell

As long as we win today and next tuesday I’m happy, we can give the scum some hope…all the better to see the crushed faces

(BTW as an aside – only the ‘bad’ Wings fans are Scum to me, not the good ones)

Including an entry from yours truly…

Perhaps, if I am very lucky, the feeble efforts of my lifetime will someday be noticed, and maybe, in some small way, they will be acknowledged as the greatest works of genius ever created by Man.

An excellent entry. Talk to Ghost about getting it on a shirt…he’s our go-to guy for that stuff on the cheap.
