Coyote Tracks - WHITEOUT Tuesday April 20 Edition

Coyotes - Red Wings, game 4, a "must win" according to some Red Wings players...Travis will have you ready to go with a preview later in the day and we expect another active GDT at gametime (early start in Phoenix - 3:30 PM...thanks, NHL schedule makers!).  Basically, this series has been pretty simple - Coyotes played their game in games 1 and 3 (and the first period of game 2) and won those games; Detroit played their game in game 2 and won that game.  Which team will impose their will on Game 4.  Vernon Fiddler should be back for the Coyotes, Shane Doan will be a game time decision likely (more details after the jump).

For your early start needs, FSAZ is getting you an extra station.  All the details are available:

Tuesday's Phoenix Coyotes-Detroit Red Wings Game No. 4 is going to be simulcast on FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports Arizona Plus
As the Phoenix Coyotes look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Detroit Red Wings, FOX Sports Arizona has announced Tuesday’s Game 4 will now be simulcast on FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports Arizona Plus channels. The network’s exclusive local coverage of this important NHL Playoff game from Joe Louis Arena begins at 3:30 p.m.

Red Wings' Bertuzzi frustrated by 'intent to blow' | MLive.com
It's not a lot of whining, but it seems pretty misplaced.  Both "goals" were pretty clear situations where Bryz held the puck and the whistle was blown (or should've been blown) before the puck went in.  On the latter goal, that Todd Bertuzzi seems most frustrated about, he pushed Bryzgalov (along with the puck) over the goal line, which you really can't do regardless.  Mike Babcock has right take in that neither were real issues...

The Red Wings always sell tickets for the first two rounds of the playoffs before the playoffs begin. Why wait until after the first round, say the first round goes to Game 7 and then the next series begins two days later… it’s just easier to sell more tickets when you have more time to do it. No one on the team is looking past the Coyotes. Even if a few fans do it, it doesn’t matter. They have no control over what is happening in the actual games. Also, why would the actual players and coachs look past a team that finished with 107 points and has a Vezina Trophy finalist in net?? Other teams might do it, but not this team. Especially after the “mediocre” year they had.

Yea

I didnt see anything wrong with that. Also why was there an arrow pointed at the 11 time stanley cup winners? im confused, its a fact.. if it said 12 then i would see and issue with it.

I think that arrow was pointing to the box that showed it was the official facebook fan page of the Detroit Red Wings…

I just post what I see...

And yes, the Coyotes sold their first two rounds of tickets in advance (actually I bought my tickets all the way through to the Stanley Cup finals, but that was just to lock in the same pricing for each round). What surprised me is that it’s a contest to win tickets to a suite for the 2nd round. That’s not something that you need to do too much before a Game 7. Especially because you can give those suite tickets away for the 2nd home game…it’s not a big deal, just thought it was something interesting.

So is it a big deal for you guys that the game starts at 3:30pm?? I hate the late 10:00pm or 10:30 pm starts when the Wings are out West, but to have games before primetime seems like it would suck. I’m not to exciting about a 6:30 start, but it probably has something to do with the fact that there are 5 games tonight and they want to show more on Versus.

by dewman8810 on Apr 20, 2010 6:32 AM MST reply actions

This is probably the earliest start for a west coast game all season, unless there ahppened to be a weekend 'GOTW'.

And I agree, I believe it has something to do with VS covering as many games as possible. The earliest I’ve seen a weeknight game start out here is usually around 9pm EST, which would be 6 in the west.

I would argue that this adds to the ‘east coast bias’ argument, simply because sports reporters atre too old to stay up and watch western conference games, so they just ignore them. Eheeh!

It only sucks for me because I’ll still be at work when the game starts. At least I’m getting off early today. I normally get off at 5, so to get home at 5:30 and miss 2 hours of the game really sucks. I have it set to record, but I don’t think I can keep myself from checking in online when I work on a computer all day.

That's the big issue with everyone around here.

WOW

that would suck. I would be going home “sick” regardless. I feel for you guys on the west coast.. because honestly i dont care how late i stay up, i can go to work draggin ass a day or 2.. but to be stuck at work while a game is on… absolutely terrible.

by bond021 on Apr 20, 2010 8:11 AM MST up reply actions

I will be at work until 7:30pm. I have it set to record, as well. But, I won’t be able to resist the updates online. So, I will be relying on the game thread for info about the game. It is really awful that a playoff game starts while everyone is at work here.

If you can, XTra Sports 910 usually streams the game. Thankfully I have a radio in my office to listen to Bob Heethuis bring me the game…

sadly, no, I cannot change the radio station that plays at work. Sigh. This is when it is clear to me that Detroit shouldn’t play in the Western conference. it is crazy that they play in the Eastern time zone, and we play in the Pacific time zone this time of year. There is a 3 hour time difference between us. Terrible that a playoff game should start this early.

by SongBird on Apr 20, 2010 2:49 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed. At least if the Coyotes win the series it will be one less eastern time zone team to worry about (Chicago and Nashville will take out one of the others). So it might be a short-lived issue….

by Jordan Ellel on Apr 20, 2010 3:00 PM MST up reply actions

Chicago and Nashville are both Central Timezone.

2 – Trust me, I wish we played in the East. Staying up half the night so I can watch a game because Gary thinks 10:30 is a good start time is terrible. If we can start at 6:30 here, you can start at 6:30 there.

by Robocop on Apr 21, 2010 6:52 AM MST up reply actions

See, we need to start at 7:30 here (we generally start at 7 most nights)…particularly during the week to allow fans to get out to the arena and avoid rush hour. Our Saturday games start at 6 (or did during the regular season with the exception of a few HNIC broadcasts).

I agree that staying up all night is annoying, but at least it doesn’t mean having to leave work or not being able to watch the game at all because you are at work…

I knew Chicago was central (brian fart), had no idea that Nashville was that far west….

True, I forgot that when the arena was built, you guys looked at where most of the people lived, and then built it as far away from that point as possible while staying in the valley.

by Robocop on Apr 21, 2010 1:18 PM MST up reply actions

Really if they had built the arena where everyone now laments that it should’ve been built the traffic to get to games would’ve been so dreadful during the week that I would’ve refused to go to most games…

by Jordan Ellel on Apr 21, 2010 1:21 PM MST up reply actions

It probably wouldn’t have been that bad.

The people going to games would plan for it, and the people not going would avoid the area like the plague.

by Robocop on Apr 21, 2010 1:52 PM MST up reply actions

Eh…there’s just not anywhere to go to avoid it. If you live in the east valley, then you need to take one of 2 routes to get there and they already both have terrible traffic. Add in hockey-related traffic and it would’ve been pretty awful. The current arena location is fine and we’ve got plenty of people coming out every game recently without problems…

I’m not so sure that really hurts you. Yotes played pretty well without him for 2 periods on Sunday.

Of course, picking up the slack for the game when he gets injured is a completely different animal from getting someone to step up when you know he’s going to be out the whole game. Should be interesting to see who (if anyone) steps up to fill the role.

by Robocop on Apr 20, 2010 9:22 AM MST up reply actions

I don’t know – it definitely doesn’t help the team. If it motivates guys like Pyatt and Stempniak and Lang (if he’s Doan’s replacement) to pick up their games in order to cover the slack of losing Doan, then it is probably net even.

But Doan is definitely the heart and soul of this team and he was the guy that was making life the most miserable for the Red Wings when they touched the puck, in my opinion. Just relentless through the first 2.5 games. He might not be finding the scoresheet often, but not having Doan is generally not the way the Coyotes would want to play. From Tippett’s presser though, it seems as if he’s likely to be back on Friday…

If there’s a chance playing him tonight would make the injury worse, then it’s a smart move letting him have an extra 3 days rest. Out 1 game or risk being out the rest of the series/playoffs… the choice is easy.

I know the team will pick it up tonight. Because Doan’s out and for the chance to eliminate the Wings at home on Friday.
