Coyote Tracks - TGIF March 5 Edition

Woo-Hoo!!!  Well, that was exciting last night.  New Phoenix Coyotes winger Wojtek Wolski scores with 22 seconds left to beat his former team the Avs...Radim Vrbata adds an empty netter and the Coyotes get the 3-1 victory.  Mueller had a penalty, an assist and took a big hit from Derek Morris late in the game.  All the new Coyotes looked good...Petteri Nokelainen was running around hitting everything in sight and showed good speed...Lee Stempniak scored the first goal of the game off a great feed from Vernon Fiddler...Morris had some solid defensive plays particularly in the third.  As we were saying yesterday and Wednesday - in GMDM we trust...

Full recap of the game available from Travis here... [AZCentral's Jim Gintonio's take] [AP via ESPN] [Mile High Hockey]

LAST NIGHT'S NHL SCORES:  COL 1 - PHX 3; PIT 5 - NYR 4 (OT); MTL 2 - SJ 3; TOR 2 - BOS 3 (SO); OTT 1 - CAR 4; TB 4 - WAS 5; NYI 3 - ATL 6

Lots more from around the interwebs regarding yesterday's trade deadline...and a bit of whimsy and post-Olympics news and what-not after the jump...

Star-divide

We all can agree that the Coyotes had a good deadline, and aside from a few of the whining press (cough...Bruce Garrioch...cough) complaining about the Coyotes adding payroll to try and succeed - shocking strategy NHL! - the overall consensus is that the Coyotes had one of the top 3 days yesterday...

Deadline winners, losers: Kudos to Capitals, Coyotes and Cup champs - NHL - CBSSports.com Hockey
The Coyotes are committed to their desert revival, adding five veterans at the trade deadline and earning kudos from Wes Goldstein, who also praises the Penguins, Caps, Kings and Oilers.

Capitals, Coyotes improve most at NHL trade deadline - USATODAY.com
USA TODAY's hockey writer ranks the teams that he believes had the top 10 trade deadline performances:...

Opinion: Coyotes hit home run in deadline dealings - NHL- nbcsports.msnbc.com
Low-cost moves bring depth and fill holes without sacrificing the future.

Some Post-Olympics News....

Coyotes still hoping for Olympics boost - Phoenix Business Journal:
The Tuesday night crowd wasn't the best...last night was clearly better...hopefully there's a HUGE turnout for Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks.

This is just highly entertaining stuff to get you through your post-Olympics stupor...

This remix of "The Hockey Song" is quite entertaining...even if it is a tribute to the Canadian's goal medal hockey team...and has some anti-USA sentiment...enjoy!

Sidney Crosby golden roar reader art contest, Gallery No. 1 - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
If you are familiar with Puck Daddy's past photoshop contests, I'm sure you'll enjoy these...and yes, the Travis H. mentioned is our very own fearless leader here at Five For Howling...good job!

DirecTV deal report 'not true' according to Versus - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Despite some reports to the contrary that a deal was imminent it appears as if the DirecTV and VS. deal is not close to happening...GRRRR...thankfully, we know where to go to catch a Coyotes game on VS. now (Max's in Glendale)...but, seriously...if DirecTV and VS. aren't going to get this straightened out before the Stanley Cup playoffs, the NHL better have a plan to get Center Ice subscribers that have DirecTV access to the games...

Rampage bust through in shootout
The Rampage overcame a two-goal third-period deficit and a depleted roster to shock the Houston Aeros 4-3 in a shootout before 6,459 on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.  Kyle Turris ties a franchise record with a goal in his sixth straight game....

On Frozen Blog › Sandbox Kings are Goal Song Kings
Not sure how everyone feels about Joe Satriani's crowd chant that the Coyotes have used for their goal score for as long as I've lived in Phoenix...I wouldn't mind seeing them change it up.  Haven't heard the new song that the Washington Capitals ended up choosing, but I hope it really does "Rock The Red"

Enjoy the weekend - come out Saturday night at 6 PM to see the Coyotes take on the Ducks...

I’ll promise to keep an extra close eye on him if you’ll make my Friday by doing another “I got a call on the other line” post for the trade deadline snoozefest ;)
