Coyotes vs. Avalanche - Game #64 Preview - What Will This Team Be?

As you can see from all the posts below this one, the Phoenix Coyotes were certainly busy yesterday. They made what is probably the biggest move of the day getting Wojtek Wolski from the Colorado Avalanche for Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter. Well, due to the quirks of the NHL schedule and fate I guess, we'll be facing the Avs tonight!

I know that fans here are certainly excited to see what all these moves will produce in terms of chemistry and goal scoring as well, but we may not get the whole package right away. Wolski and Derek Morris will certainly be in the lineup tonight, but Mathieu Schnieder still has to finish clearing re-entry waivers and Lee Stempniak may not have gotten here in time to be ready to go for tonight's game.

Peter Mueller got a good start for Colorado last night scoring his first goal in a while against the Anaheim Ducks. While I wish him kinda sorta well, I'm also hoping that the team remembers every single one of those annoying little things he did on the road or in the locker room and give him a little extra "love" with every hit they lay on him. Before I wouldn't have really cared much, but finding out that he asked to be traded and then just stopped trying kind of annoys the hell out of me.

Starting Goaltenders:

GP MIN W L EGA GA GAA SA SV SV% SO
2009 - Ilya Bryzgalov 55 3218 32 18 127 2.37 1544 1417 .918 6

Bryz will get the go ahead again despite giving up 5 in two periods against the Blues on Tuesday. Some people will say "Why? He bit it last time!" Sure, but every time he does that and LaBarbera comes in. Barbie plays well for the rest of that game, gets the next start and then sucks. Besides the whole team looked like they needed to knock the rust off on Tuesday.

GP MIN W L EGA GA GAA SA SV SV% SO
2009 - Craig Anderson 55 3294 32 17 134 2.44 1743 1609 .923 6

Anderson is 7th in the league in save percentage so we'll have to make our chances count. Maybe Wolski can give the guys in the room a few tips on where to go on the Avs' netminder.

Peter Mueller

I'll talk about both of them together because that's really what everyone is going to be focusing on tonight. Fans here in Phoenix will Certainly begin the comparisons between the plays tonight and while it may not be fair, this game will give fans a starting point to judge the trade from. Will Wolski explode in his first game? Maybe, maybe not, but both players get put side by side in Phoenix's first game after the trade.

HUGE game tonight...

Only 7 homes games left for the Coyotes coming into tonight’s game…Yotes have lost 3 straight and despite still holding a 9 point cushion on the team in 8th place in the West, the Coyotes really need to get back to winning. Since the last time we faced Colorado (the first loss of this skid), the Coyotes have looked flat…they really miss Scottie Upshall’s presence in the lineup to kick start them. Hopefully Wolski will have some of the jump that we saw Upshall and Lombardi bring last year after the deadline…
