Dear Toronto Maple Leaf Fans,

I'm sorry I have to write this letter to you today. It's not easy telling your friends that there's pretty much no chance that they could possibly land in the Playoffs, but that's where we're at. I know it's not easy to hear, but I'm sorry. Hugs? Hugs. You can't enjoy your beloved Leafs in the PLAYOFFS!!!1 this year, but I do have the next best thing. Enjoying the Phoenix Coyotes in the PLAYOFFS!!!1

Now I know what you're thinking, and you're right, Sarah Jessica Parker does look like a horse, but that really doesn't have a whole hell of a lot to do with what we're talking about now does it smart guy? No. No it doesn't. What i'm really here to do is tell you some of the reasons that you might consider rooting for us this postseason if you have nothing better to do.

Star-divide

First is that I think, most of you at least, like me. Maybe at least a little? Some of you? Oh.... well. okay then. If, let's say you did though you'd like the fact that I had a team in the Playoffs and might be inclined to join me. It would be nice to have some Maple Leafs in my corner you know, eh?

For those Leaf fans not actually in Toronto, but say in California, Vancouver and places West, we're closer to your time zone! Most of your games would be on at times that are easy to root for. And let's face it even you all in Toronto like to stay up late so it won't be an issue to see them.

Then there's a bit of a touchy issue. That's one Lee Stempniak. Some of you might wish him the best. Some of you may now hate his guts, but either way, you at least know the ninja and that familiarity makes this an easy fit.

Or how about that we're a Western Conference team? That makes it easier right? There's no built up rivalry between us. It's not like we're some jerks from Ottawa or anything. Come on!

I know some of you are saying, yeah, but aren't you owned by the NHL? Well, for the moment we are sure. But hopefully that gets ironed out soon so that Bettman isn't calling the shots.

Also. Take another look at those Pythagorian numbers with the current standings if you like. I think you'll see we're not far off where we should be now.

The biggest reason though is that we're the best story going in hockey right now. A team gets dragged through the mud and comes out as one of the best teams in the league? Pretty cool right? Everyone loves an underdog and we're the biggest one in a long time.

Actually I'll throw one more at you. I look at your team and my team and I see in yours what we were a couple years ago. We were just starting to rebuild the right way. There may be a lot of work to be done in Toronto, but the pieces are starting to be put together and could be something special in the near future.

So what do you think. Could you support the Coyotes this postseason as your playoff team? Or at least your Western Conference playoff team?

For the record, I’m pro-Desert Ninja.

the typo in the "eat paste" option is apropos...

and of course I’m cheering for the desert dogs in the PLAYOFFS!!!1

I have nothing interesting to say.

Sorry Travis...

I cant adopt the ’Yotes, as I will be cheering for my favourite non-leaf (Malkin) and a Canadian Hero (Crosby). For the record, im not a band wagoner Ive actually always liked the Penguins.

But seriously I wish you guys luck. Though i dont think you’ll need it: the Coyotes will go down no earlier than game 6 of round 2, and could definitley go farther depending on the match-ups they get. They have depth, they play a solid team game, and perhaps most importantly they have a REALLY good goalie. Once again, best of luck

Thank you

For the honesty and the luck. Its really nice to know that others are noticing the play of the coyotes.

sure

I will cheer for the Ninja, Pyatt and his pretty eyes, and hope that a long playoff run will secure the Yotes a good owner in Phoenix.

We don’t really get any Phoenix games up here, but I’ll do my best. Truth be told, I’d do it just to spite that douche Balsillie.

I am the truculence that flaps in the night!

although i’m a canucks fan and our post hasn’t come yet (and hopefully won’t), i’ll make you a deal: if the canucks are kicked out of the playoffs before the yotes, then i’ll cheer for phoenix, since you’ll be the most deserving team of all the others who are left in the west.

I think I can speak for Travis in saying that we accept your kind offer…that being said, I hope the Coyotes crush the creepy Sedin twins tonight…

agreed, the first 3 match-ups between these teams have all been very spirited. I expect an excellent finale to the regular season series. I’ll be intrigued by what statement the Canucks make…if it’s that big a game for Vancouver, I’m a little worried that the Coyotes might not have that same jump…

I'm in.

I had already picked Phoenix as my “playoff team”.
I was going to do a post over at PPP to see where everyone else allegiance lay, but it was decidedly too soon.

Also the question in your poll reminded me of Seinfeld:

Wouldn’t you like to be a big brother to someone like me.

I’m sold. I will officially band-wagon for the Phoenix Coyotes this playoffs – but it comes with a price. We expect reciprocity next time the wheels are on the other side of the cart.

by Blue and White Expat on Mar 31, 2010 7:48 AM MST reply actions

I will accept only because I want to see what happens when the NHL wins a Stanley Cup.

I’m sorry, but however much I like you on a personal basis, I could never root for a team that plays in maroon.
