Coyotes Pick Up Lee Stempniak from Toronto for a 4th and a 7th Round Pick

PrintThe Coyotes have aquired Lee "White Ninja" Stempniak from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 4th round pick and a 7th round pick in this year's draft. Stempniak has played in every game or the Maple leafs this year and has 14-16-30 to show for it. He also carries a -10 to go with it. That's pretty much par for the course with any Maple Leaf this year though.
I like the trade in that it gets us another decent guy for low round picks, but that's 4 picks we've dealt away so far today. I'll get more into this later as I'm still at work, but talk about deal # 4 of the day here.
Also, In case you missed it the Coyotes picked up Mathieu Schneider from the Canucks for Sean Zimmerman and a 6th rounder. Not really sure how that helps, but Schnider has been in the AHL for a good chunk of the year.

Eriksson to Rangers for G Miika Wiikman and 2011 7th Round Pick (gotta love a player with 2 double ii’s in his name);
Send a pick (TBD) to Anaheim for Petteri Nokelainen (name rings a bell, but I have no idea why).
Frankly, I don’t think these are big trades, but the Coyotes just keep on pushing this deadline…

Nokelainen is a depth guy. Hasn’t becomes the player people expected when he was drafted but he gives you a decent presence down the middle.Losing Erickson is an upgrade. I’d rather Schlemko get playing time if need be. Worth the 6th round pick they gave up.

My only beef...
Is giving up on Porter and Kolarik. Not sure that they would be top class NHLers, but they really were never given an opportunity. For his part, Porter seemed to play pretty well in his limited action in Phoenix (both last year and this). But overall, in GMDM I trust and it looks like he had a very good day.

I think Porter has potential, in a good way.
Not like ‘Perter Mueller potential’, but something that WILL indeed work itself out. They’re both young, but I think Porter will end up being a pretty badass hockey player in a few years. But, to make the push we want, we have to act now. And I applaud GMDM for having the brass ones to pull these off.
