Coyote Tracks - Wednesday February 24 Edition

Ok...I can't keep track of what is and is not a tape delayed game, and it's late.  So Slovakia-Norway might or might not be over right now...last I saw Slovakia was winning 3-2.  The winner will play Sweden.

Around the rest of the Olympics, Switzerland won a shootout against Belarus 3-2 and will face the US tomorrow afternoon.  Canada cruised against Germany and gets to play the Russians tomorrow later in the day - this is must see hockey.  Good luck to whatever Canadian line gets to face off against Ovechkin-Malkin-Semin...And the Czech Republic gave up 2 goals in the third against Latvia, but David Krecji scored in overtime to advance them to play Finland tomorrow.

U.S. top seed, Canada-Russia looms in medal round bracket - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Here's the handy-dandy bracket that would've been posted yesterday to help you follow the Olympic medals round better...sorry...

It ain't over till it's over ... | Habs Inside/Out
A Canadian chimed in on the woes of that loaded Canadian roster...what is up with Joe Thornton and big pressure games.  If I'm a San Jose fan, I'm not feeling too good watching these Olympics.  The Thornton-Marleau-Heatley line have a huge advantage over most everyone because they've been playing together all year.  They've scored some, but haven't really dominated play despite getting tons of ice time.

RosenBlog: Has the NHL finally learned that the Olympic puck stops in Vancouver?
I think everyone can agree that NBC has at least been doing something screwy with the Olympics coverage.  This might be a bit harsh, but certainly its no different than what a lot of people are thinking.  Hard to believe that the NHL is really a priority for NBC at all with the way it's being handled.

Down Goes Brown: Vancouver 2010: Worst Olympics Ever? - Toronto Maple Leafs Blog - Humor. Commentary. Despair.
As expected, Down Goes Brown offers a good look at the problems so far at the Olympics...

The Official Web Site - Phoenix Coyotes
Click over to the "Zoo" tab and watch Keith "Tiger" Yandle, Vern "Flamingo" Fiddler, Jason "Walrus" LaBarbara and Adrian "Elephant" Aucoin spend some time at the Phoenix zoo...gotta love that some enterprising youth at the Coyotes website located his Ben Folds Five "Whatever and Ever Amen" cd to soundtrack the piece...seriously, every song is from that CD...I love that CD lots, but we can't use music from even 2 artists...

Bid dropped for tax district around Arena in Glendale
Rep. Weiers pulls bill, citing lack of support.  Not surprising really...I wouldn't care so much if we were hearing anything about how negotiations between Ice Edge, the NHL and Glendale were going...

At the break: The NHL's five biggest surprises - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Yes, yes...the national media had no clue how good the Coyotes could be.  I like to watch them eat crow, but these stories are getting a bit tiresome...

Three doses of Wednesday whimsy...

@Yotesgurl pens a birthday poem to one of here favorite Czechs...Dr. Seuss would be proud...

YouTube - Wayne Gretzky - This is SportsCenter - I think this explains why the Gretzky coaching experiment failed miserably here...I don't think Turris learned much of anything in this environment... - Philly Sports & Minutiae: The Phillie Phanatic in Space?
Much as various cities have done in the past, Philly is conducting a public artworks project for charity and using one of the greatest mascots as motivation...(Howler is great, but he's not close to the same league as the Phanatic just yet)...

Enjoy the Olympics action.  Non-Olympics Coyotes start practicing again today...get ready for the stretch run folks...
