Well, Coach Tippett was less than impressed with the way the Phoenix Coyotes played on Thursday night in their loss against Minnesota and let that message be known to the team. They responded in a big way last night against the division leading Stars, scoring three times in the first period and easily handling the Stars attack en route to a 5-2 victory.
Super short recap because there is a newborn upstairs that needs some attention. And I only raise the newborn because yesterday she experienced her first home Coyotes game like a champ. She wasn't too fussy and the only thing that bothered her was the goal horn, which the Coyotes made sure to light up repeatedly. I do believe if Shane Doan had completed the hat trick, she would attend all future games...as it is, maybe just 90% of future games.
Speaking of Captain Coyote, what does he need to do to get that hat trick already. His 35th career two goal performance and he had several beautiful opportunities to add that third goal late in the game when he rang one off the post on the power play and then slid one through the crease later in the game. For everyone in attendance that was chanting "Doaner, Doaner, Doaner" for the final 5 minutes of the game, that was truly awesome to hear. Hope that carried through to the broadcast. Doan certainly heard it and acknowledged the crowd after being named the first star and talking with FSN Arizona's Todd Walsh.
Another strong game for Ray Whitney who kicked off the scoring with a nice put back from up close and Keith Yandle added three points with a goal and two helpers. Ed Jovanovski was in a foul mood and taking it out on Stars players to the tune of 11 PIMs. I'd be upset, but some of the minors were ticky-tack and his fight sticking up for a not-so-clean hit on Eric Belanger will be well received by the team. Angry Jovo isn't quite the force of Angry Doan, but he's still not someone to mess with.
OUR THREE STARS
1. Shane Doan - one day, Doaner...it will happen.
2. Keith Yandle - goal and two assists, stellar defensive play throughout the game.
3. Lauri Korpikoski - solid play throughout and the back-breaker short handed goal early in the third that cooled any thoughts of a Dallas comeback.
COMMENT OF THE NIGHT

And we're off (well, the Coyotes are) on a six game road trip. The Coyotes don't return to the Valley until December 28, so I'd imagine we'll be having some more folks wandering around the GDTs. If you are in the Valley, though, this Tuesday night, Glendale City Council meeting is open to the public. Come out and show your support! There will be a whole big crew of folks there and possibly some sad Canadian journalists...just saying! Coyotes start the road trip on Wednesday against the Devils from the Rock.
