REAL HOCKEY! Or rather REAL HOCKEY FOOD BYPRODUCT! as i've taken to calling the NHL Preseason. It's time to get to the actual part of the Coyotes that involves ice rather than uncomfortable courtroom seating. Tonight we face off against the LA Kings in a Home and Home, Split Squad, Doubleheader. So far it looks like the teams sent the B squads on the road so the home teams should be the victors in each. In the 7:00 Arizona Game, Ilya Bryzgalov will start in Goal with the majority of the projected opening day defensive squad in front of him. Captain Shane Doan, along with Matthew Lombardi, Scottie Upshall and the Czeching line Of Radim Vrbata, Martin Hanzal and Petr Prucha will stay in Phoenix as well as one of the bright spots in camp, Justin Bernhardt. Berndardt has looked impressive with good stick handling, and good shots on the different goalies he has faced.

In the Los Angeles game (7:30pm) Some of the young forwards will see time with Peter Mueller, Mikkel Boedker, Viktor Tikhonov and Kyle Turris all making the trip. One surprise is Ryan Hollweg who was laying out the hits at camp like he wanted a contract. The former leaf is a long shot, but if he can actually generate some points to go along with the hits it's possible. The Defense is mostly AHL level for this year with the exception of Keith Yandle who should be on the opening day roster. Jason LaBarbera and Al Montoya will face the Kings A squad. Both goalies are battling for the backup spot behind Bryz, so hopefully they split the game so we can really see what's what. LaBarbera is looking to resurrect his career and Montoya is looking to continue a strong finish to last year. It'll be interesting to find out who the better tender is...

I was at the LA game last night and Taylor Pyatt looked really good. He’s a lot bigger than I thought he’d be and he made a few nice plays along the boards. Also, he burned Colten Teubert (#13 overall pick 2 years ago) on the outside and then when Teubert tried to fight him Pyatt kicked the shit out of him.

Keith Yandle looked pretty good, as did Mueller.

The West Coast is the Best Coast.
