Phoenix Coyotes at the NHL Draft - Day 2

Updating with information on the 2nd through 7th rounds:

Pick #36 Overall - Chris Brown - Center - US-U18

Pick #91 Overall - Mike Lee - Goalie - Fargo (USHL)

Pick #97 Overall - Jordan Szwarz - RW - Saginaw (OHL)

Pick #105 Overall - Justin Weller - D - Red Deer (WHL)

Pick # 157 - Evan Bloodoff - RW - Kelowna (WHL)

Pick #187 - Traded to Vancouver for Defenseman Shaun Heshka

We've also traded our 5th Round pick in 2010 for Sami Lepisto from the Washington Capitals. Seems to be a decent Defensive prospect. He's 25 and after moving here from Jokerit he played great in the AHL with 4 goals and 41 assists. He got in 7 games at the NHL level but was only able to record 1 assist over those 7.

More Trades: Coyotes trade forward Brandon Prust to the Calgary Flames for defenseman Jim Vandermeer. Jim is a 6/7 defenseman who is 18-57-75 in 312 NHL games with Philadelphia, Chicago and Calgary.

I know little about your draft picks, but as a Caps fan, I am personally (slightly) sad to see Lepisto get shipped off. Yeah, he did fall out of favor after not really impressing here, but he was never given the patience that was given to Jeff Schultz(for his size), Jurcina(For his hitting), or Morrisonn(I don’t have a clue why), even though he was younger than Jurcina and Mo. I think he’s a steal for a 5th round pick, and that the Caps probably could have gotten just a bit more.

The knack on the guy is skating. He always “looks slow” on the ice. His puck movement always looked great, in my opinion, but he did seem slow to get back to cover NHL forwards. Hopefully a change of scenery changes this guy to really get his act together.

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

So we got 5 defensemen between drafting and trades?

Huh, interesting concept, actually drafting to fill your needs? Brilliant.

I think this year’s class should be pretty good. I personally think Bloodoff is one of the best last names ever in the history of sports, and I hope he makes the full roster just so I can get his name on one of my jerseys.

Can’t wait to see some of these guys this season.
