Pain and Loss of Losing a Franchise
Wrote this for IC from a Winnipegers perspective on what it means to lose a franchise. (i'm not declaring the Coyotes dead btw).
I wish that Winnipeg could regain its status as an NHL city, but this isn’t about Winnipeg. Any team relocation plans don’t currently include Winnipeg and the conversation is focussed solely on moving this team to Southern Ontario. So while I can understand the economic reasoning that many pundits are calling for the Coyotes to be moved to a more hockey-centric area such as Southern Ontario, once again little regard is shown to those die hard fans that would be left behind. While I am sure that many of my fellow Pegger’s would not consider themselves fans of the Coyote’s organization, the loss of a team is a sentiment that we understand all too well and one which we may, ironically, now share with our brethren in Phoenix.

As I stated in my article, I feel for the fans in Phoenix who have shown dedication to this team. It seems like no matter what is thrown your way, you guys continue to support.
Count me as one Canadian not clamouring for your team's return to Canada. (although I will take Shane Doan back in 1 second).

Winnipeg and grassroots efforts
Great post. As a younger fan (on top of being new) I really appreciate hearing the Winnepeg history. And I’m relieved to hear that there are folks in Winnepeg that aren’t clinging to the bitterness.
I agree with your analysis that the grassroots efforts don’t necessarily change what the business is going to do. But I believe it to be therapuetic for our fans. The worst thing in the world after losing your team is not being able to do anything about it.
And I like to think that our folks are doing a great job, getting the word out that there are true fans in the desert. And that these die hard fans are in it to keep their team.
Thanks again.
The Virgin Hockey Fan. for those of us that don't know what we're doing.
Thanks!
In fact a reader took me to task for not being pro-Winnipeg. lol. I had to inform him that Winnipeg isn’t part of this discussion and there is no point trying to interject the city into it.
Looks like the big day is May. 19th is the big day. Are there any rallys planned?

I think we’ll be having one on the 16th as of right now out at Westgate center.

There are better reasons not to relocate to Winnipeg...or ANYWHERE
It’s absurd. Here’s why:

Good luck. I wish Coyotes fans the best. I really enjoyed seeing a pair of games in Glendale since the facility opened….
