Phoenix Coyotes Midnight Trade Deadline Updates - Morris and Jokinen
Well it's 11:30 Phoenix time and exactly nothing has happened yet. Derek Morris was rumored to be going to the Capitals earlier today for a deal involving Tom Poti, but that's looking less likely as Poti was not a healty scratch, but was sat due to a sore groin. Also, any deal with Montreal to move Olli Jokinen there won't be happening according to ESPN as the Habs don't have the cap room to squeeze him in.
Another rumor coming out of Pierre LuBrun's ESPN blog is an even bigger deal with the Flyers going down involving Morris and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. Rumored to be coming back the Coyotes' way would be Goalie Martin Biron, and Wingers Joffrey Lupul and Scottie Upshall. I'm not sure that deal makes a whole ton of sense for the Coyotes. We need to get something for Morris if he's going to walk at the end of the season, but offloading Bryzgalov who is a fairly good goalie when the team in front of him plays well, for a goalie in Biron who is an Unrestricted Free Agent at season's end doesn't make much sense to me. The Coyotes went long enough with the goalie position unfilled by any one person. Let's not hope a goalie falls in our laps again. Lupol and Upshall are pretty decent players though Lupul would be making about 4.25 million a year over then next 4 years. Add that to the fact that the previously mentioned Biron has a NTC that he would have to waive and I just don't see this deal happening. Just in case though, here's a look at the stats for each of the mentioned players...

Why?
Why, why, why would you guys move Bryzgalov? Hasn’t he been part of the solution and not part of the problem?

Don't see Bryz moving...
Telly, yes. Bryz, not so much. Lupul and Upshall wouldn’t be a bad take for a guy like Morris, but I (i) doubt the Flyers want to give up that much of their offensive depth, and (ii) am not sure that the Coyotes should be blocking guys like Porter, Kolarik and MacLean with these guys. We’ll wait and see though…
