Gretzky also revealed that he thought the team’s financial situation would be resolved in the next "three to four weeks and that new ownership could potentially add a piece or two to the team in the form of free agents to supplement the youth movement.

He also talked about how things went this season from good to bad and how the finances effected the team. Pretty good interview.

h/t to Mirtle for this one.

Except the end...

Where he acknowledged that he failed at the Canadian team level so he stepped aside, but has no plans to do so in Phoenix. I’m willing to let him stay as we need him to draw fans most likely…but hopefully the new ownership group will make him get some competent assistants…

Yes.

I feel the same. If he still can’t get it done minus the financial distractions then it may be time to go though.

Free agents, youth movement...

So looking at this year’s free agent market, at the “young stars”, I saw the following people that would make me giddy if they Yotes brought them in:

Forwards:
Chris Borque
Age: 23

Ryan Clowe
Age: 26

Jiri Hudler
Age: 25

Defense:
Jay Bouwmeester
Age: 25

Steve Eminger
Age: 25

Shaone Morrisonn
Age: 26

ALSO: The following people are up for renewal for the Yotes (Amongst others), who do you see coming? Going?

Dmitri Kalinin
Joakim Lindstrom
Enver Lisin
Brian McGrattan
Petr Prucha
Steve Reinprecht
Scottie Upshall

Pass on the UFA forwards...

But J-Bo, Eminger and Morrisonn are all intriguing. I have faith in the wealth of young forwards we have that enough will pan out to fill the lines effectively.

As for our own guys….

Kalinin – resign (I’ve been very impressed with him…end the David Hale experiment)
Lindstrom – maybe, but likely not
Lisin – resign (but for a reasonable price…love his jump and offensive upside, but needs to get better defensively…really don’t know what he’s done to get in TGO’s doghouse, but would like to see him play a bit more down the stretch)
McGrattan – glad he came back from the substance abuse program successfully, bummed he hurt his shoulder, but unless we move Fedoruk, can’t see keeping both on the payroll…especially with Prust as well
Prucha – resign (playing great now that he’s out of NY)
Reinprecht – resign (if reasonable – need a few vets, wears that ‘A’ well, good at faceoffs generally…needs to be a short term deal)
Upshall – absolutely, positively resign…if they don’t resign Upshall, they really screwed the pooch with the Carcillo deal.

Gotta remember that we also have guys like Porter, Kolarik, MacLean, [2009 top 5 pick possibly], Ahnelov waiting to come up and join the team as well…

upshall,

prucha, kalinin and rhino….definite resigns…lindstrom and lisin….not so much, wouldn’t particularly miss them if they’re gone…macdaddy….either he or feds gotta go, prolly feds…would rather have mac in an enforcer role than fedoruk…he just never lit my fire at all…yeah, some secondary scoring, but even a blind pig finds an acorn now and again…

ok, so i

read the interview…talk about living in a dream world of your own making….yeah, wayne, thats right, when you don’t win you can always find excuses, but the bottom line is you gotta look in the mirror and say “is part of the problem me?” and yeah, wayne, that little voice is saying “yeah, it’s you”…..
